I'm a Digital and Design Thinker

I am a business and IT management professional working for Karvy Insurance Repository.

During the last two decades,  I have had the privilege of working with several leaders while launching various start-ups within Karvy Group. All those start-ups now are giant companies.

In between, I managed to write two books on presentation skills (called Slide Spin series). The main book in the series gave me a lot of recognition, accolades and earned the Global eBook Award, California, the USA in Silver Category.

I love creating: I create time to create the following:

  3. Videos using Final Cut Pro.

Have you read your Karmic ledger lately?

Karmic balance. 

Why do people do financial planning? 

People save in banks, invest in stocks, real estate, gold, etc., 

People create emergency funds, education funds and marriage funds for children, retirement funds, and so on. 

They build houses, plant trees, and leave tremendous legacies. 

Most of them know that they cannot fully enjoy all those. Still, they do what they do. They do it for their children, spouse, or other generations. 

But seldom people worry about their next future and create a Karmic balance fund.

If we zoom out and see the big picture, we will quickly realize that we are part of something much more significant. We came into existence for a cause. There was a previous birth. There will be the next birth. There is no need to ask for scientific evidence. This is because, by the time it is scientifically proved, you have had four or five births and may have led a full life cycle each time. It is a wasted opportunity. 

The is no need to perform elaborate religious rituals and pilgrimages. Just zoom out and believe that everything is because of some predisposition. All relations we have during this lifetime are because of one simple and a single thing: To settle the karmic balance.

When we understand the simple fact, we orient differently and change our behavior. Expectations of our relationships change automatically. 

Imagine you come across the someone:

  • During one-hour flight travel
  • A twelve-hour train journey.
  • A three-day cruise journey. 
  • At your neighbourhood. 
  • At your workplace. 
  • Or in your family. 

The duration of the journey determines the kind of relationship you maintain with that person. 

In case of a flight journey, you may not even want to talk to the person next to you. If it is a train journey, you may pick-up a quarrel even for a little reason. At your workplace, you want to be extra patient. Why? Because you know. You may have to deal with the same person for a much longer period.

Zoom in: You will become microscopic and nitpicking. You start developing multiple expectations. Zoom-out: Your vision becomes broader, and you will focus more on tomorrow. The vision is different with a naked eye, a microscope, telescope, and with a satellite lens. See it once with a satellite lens. You will realize that you will meet the same people in your next birth also in case you leave the karmic account unsettled. Of course, seeing with a satellite lens and getting adjusted to the view might take some time. It takes effort and practice. But the light will surely emerge.

There is no need to believe in God or any particular religion.

Lord Sri Krishna told the same thing. Saibaba said the same. Gautama Buddha said the same. Adi Shankaracharya said the same. Do what you are supposed to do and continue to be detached from the outcome. Some people have manipulated and distorted the original message. 

Now comes the question: If both God and the previous birth existed, why did God wipe all the memories of the past? We may use it to plan better. Well, it may not be. Most people misuse the knowledge and try to settle the score themselves. It is a blindfolded game, and it is best left that way. Be assured that there is a scoreboard a ledger, and the persons managing them are very diligent and judicious.

Are you torturing someone or harming someone? Be watchful. You will get an insta-karma debit. Is someone hurting you? The same outcome. How soon is “insta”? Maybe a year or two. It depends on the intensity of damage inflicted on the other person and the previous karmic ledger position. Indeed it hits back during this lifetime.

Are you helping someone? You are either building a Karmic credit or settling past due. Be assured.

Conditioning your brain for Karmic balance accumulation will greatly improve your relations and credibility. Once the idea syncs-in, there will be very few ruptures, pre-mature breaks in relations. In the long term , term the compassion sets in and bonding will be deepened. This is what is missing in most corporate cultures today. 

Feel the Karmic balance and make efforts to accumulate a credit balance. When you can be selfless and earn money to leave a legacy, you can be a bit selfish and create some karmic treasures for your next birth. It doesn’t cost anything. When you practice spiritual leadership and compassion, the account keeps getting credited every second.

Nutrients for your career growth and success


We are living in an era of information and knowledge. The present environment is full of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. In short, it is a VUCA world. As if the abundant Human Ignorance (HI) is not sufficient, Artificial Ignorance Intelligence (AI) is on the rise.

This is a triple whammy situation. The competition is stern and values are lower than ever. With rapid technology changes, business processes are changing fast, skills are getting obsolete faster and the talent gap rate is competing with the population growth.

In such a situation, how do you upgrade your talents and continue to stay competitive?

To be a successful leader, you need to possess 100+ skills and traits. To sustain the position, you have to give up 10% of the skills and pick up an additional 20% of skills every year.

  • How do you identify these required skills and behaviors?
  • How do you learn and retain those?
  • How do you blend them and apply them at your workplace to ensure success every day?
  • Are there any foundational competencies that enable you to navigate and empower you to attract the rest of these success ingredients?

Fortunately, The answer is Yes. There are four such foundational traits you need to acquire. These traits will help you navigate irrespective of your age, profession, and location. These are :

  1. Attitude
  2. Belief
  3. Communication Sense
  4. Discipline

These are vital vitamins for your career growth. Acquire them. Measure the adequacy and never fall short of them. Then you will never see the face of failure.

1.Attitude

Well, the fact that you are reading this indicates an abundance of positive attitude in you. Needless to say, attitude is everything. If you change the way you think, feel and perceive a person, thing or situation, everything changes.

We may be equipped with a strong attitude, but most of the times we want to control everything we see: Children, parents, neighbors, team members and so on. Sometimes, we get over ambitious by desiring to control even the boss and spouse!

It is just that little mind in us we can control. Our mind is the only thing we need to manage in this universe. There is nothing else worth controlling. Once you start controlling your mind, your positive attitude blooms with fragrance.

Then your Attitude becomes contagious. We need to decide what we want to pass on. We need to make our choices wisely.

2.Belief

You are what you believe. Period. Your belief creates your vision. Vision builds meaningful goals, and goals trigger passion.

An ordinary person sees something and believes it. An extraordinary person believes something and shows it to the world. Walt Disney saw the Disney land much before it was built. Steve jobs played with iPhones much before they are produced. If you want to make a difference, you need to believe in it first.

Before you can become successful, you need to believe that you can become successful. You need to build the right beliefs and fence them with your core values. Practicing core values will protect your beliefs.

A strong belief system enables you to build your dreams. If you don’t build your dreams, someone will hire you to build their dreams.

3.Communication Sense

Many people in this world have excellent communication skills. However, are all of them successful? Not really. People fail despite their ability to communicate. Why? They lack the essence: the communication sense.

You always need to differentiate between skill and sense. You can learn many skills, but if you lack the sense of using those, you will soon become a menace. Let’s take a few examples:

As you walk across the road, you will notice many drivers riding various vehicles. The chances are that over 99% of them hold a valid license. That means they are highly skilled in driving. However, is it sufficient? What about the other critical essentials?

  1. Civic Sense (No drink and drive, no mobile chatting, no emissions from the vehicle, no loud music, concertation on the road)
  2. Traffic sense (Following traffic rules, no honking, lane, speed, and compliance)
  3. The sense of neighbourhood (Children crossing the road, elders driving, etc. ,)
  4. A sense of the terrain, sense of direction, and many more

Making sense right? What happens when a driver with 100% skills and with a near 0% sense drives near a school zone? Is it an act of terror.

Similarly, over 30% of people in the world have excellent eating skills but very poor eating sense. Obesity rates are soaring over 35% and another 30% are in the making. So, nearly 70% of the population have only eating skills.

This number, however, is much better compared to the people who have communication sense.

Communication sense is both about communicating with inner self and external world. You need to establish a communication channel with your inner self and route all communications with the external world through this channel.

4.Discipline

Discipline is doing what must be done, Even if you don’t want to do it.

Discipline to our mind is what Sun is to this planet. It’s free, consistent and extremely crucial. Imagine a week without sunlight. There won’t be a bigger calamity than this.

Look at discipline as a magic ingredient of life. Discipline can transform ordinary into the extraordinary.

  • Add it to talent: You get competency
  • Add it to an idea: It becomes a well-executed project. 
  • Put this in a child: You get a prodigy. 
  • Put it in an ordinary man: You get a Pro.
  • Add it to a goal: You get accomplishment. 

Similarly, Take the discipline out of any Professional. He/she becomes dull and lazy. He will languish every day and will eventually perish.

All human beings come pre-fitted with a powerful “execution engine” This engine enables us to act on something. It is the same engine that helps us drink that first drop of milk, stand on our feet, take that first step and so on. We move our body by the execution and not by an idea.

All successful people in the world grow this engine into a high power monster. All unsuccessful people make it faulty or spoil it completely. There is nothing more to differentiate. But why do these engines break down?

Multiple fuels can power our execution engines: Discipline, Motivation, Curiosity, Emotion, Passion and so on.

You will quickly notice that fuels like Motivation are not only temporary but are also costly. If your engine is running on motivation, it is on a high maintenance mode. It encounters frequent breakdowns and requires expensive fixes. Same is the case with all other fuels. They are even costlier and available in fewer quantities. Discipline is the best possible fuel that ignites and runs the execution engine in you. You can occasionally mix all these and give a nitro boost to your engine. However, if you take the discipline out, you will encounter a sudden breakdown on your race track. You won’t win the race for sure but can also get run over by your competitor using the D-Fuel.

To summarise:

  • Manage these four vitamins and you can manage the rest of the world.
  • A positive attitude is a gateway to your joy
  • Tune your belief system. The world dances to your tunes.
  • Communication sense is about connecting with your inner sense first and refining your dialogue with others
  • Discipline is the main driver of your fate
  • Remember, Dream without a plan is just a fantasy. A plan that is not executed is just a pipe dream and a disaster

Purpose, Posterity and Professional Alignment

How aligned is your mindset, toolset with the rest of the world? Check out.

If you are between 30 and 60 years, you will be benefitted the most out of this. I am confident that you will feel the need after reading this post.

There are three prime reasons:

  1. No doubt, technology is changing rapidly. It is time for us to understand how the recent technologies can impact two areas work and home. If not all technologies, we need to consider developments on key technologies like Robotics, IOT, Block Chain, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning.
  2. We need to acknowledge our compelling accountability towards the children
  3. We also need to realize our role in the society and the fact that we have a top obligation to give something back.

Therefore, the change looks inevitable and massive. This cannot be accomplished until we get into a mission mode.

Of STEN guns and STEM cells

Old ways wont open new doors

 

No, we are not talking about military arms or genetic engineering. The subject is something much more important for our survival in a world that is going to be challenged and dominated by robots.

The planet we live in today spins every day and makes a full circle every 24 hours. We seamlessly move along with it no matter what we do.

However, what if one day, the world goes in one direction and we do not go along with it? Disaster. Isn’t it?

That’s precisely what is happening to most of us in the corporate world. We are oblivious to the motion and direction of the rest of the world. We are busy living in the inbox, a plethora of messaging platforms and so on. You name it, we are thoroughly engrossed, and we spin and push ourselves to go with them.

So, how do we sense the motion and direction of the world, develop the necessary gravitational forces and stay aligned to the movement? Fortunately, It is not very difficult. Let us see how.

I am a father of two school going children. Like many parents, I always worry (only worry) about their education that makes them relevant and competitive for the next half-century or more.

In my pursuit of finding a practical solution, I bumped into various scholastic articles and research notes. Among the many skills we want our children to develop, it is imperative that they need to hone their STEM Skills: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These are foundational skills, and the mastery of these will help the children to align better with the future. Some leaders also say that they need creative skills and need to have some Art in the STEM. So it became, STEAM. The child with these skills (or brain cells) will stay steamingly hot for at least a decade, if not more.

That set me thinking: What should the elders and corporate workers learn to stay relevant? What are those foundational skills that we should acquire?

What are those skills which either missing or inadequate that are holding us back? How can we be positioned as a loaded sten gun or more powerful?

At a minimum, to survive in this world and co-exist with robots, we need these four skills, collectively called as STEN. Social, Technology, Engineering and Numbers. But all of them in a somewhat different context.

We need to be well versed with our Social Skills. No, we are not talking about our excellent skills with Facebook, WhatsApp and the like.

Social skills are those which give a force multiplier effect. This includes teamwork, collaboration, the ability to network with the people who matter to your position and purpose. These skills help you run the friction-free relationships.

T in STEN stands for Technology Skills. Period. There is a whole spectrum of things we need to be aware of. The list starts from the routine office platforms we use every day to more sophisticated gadgets we own or wish to own. In addition to this, we need to have the basic understanding of the current and future trends that are going to impact the way we work (Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Information Security and so on). The most important in the list is:  How do you make use of a simple robot to help you save yourself from an impending threat from a larger robot? We need to make the best use of technology without getting either scared or eliminated.  eg: A simple mobile app like IFTT or a small macro ( or Automator in case of a Mac) can automate several routine and mundane tasks and can free us up. This reclaimed time can be invested to learn more important and critical skills.

Similarly, it is essential to cultivate our Engineering Skills. This engineering is different from regular flavors of engineering like mechanical, electronic and so on. These are Inner Engineering skills as Sadguru puts it. Unless we learn to lead ourselves, we cannot lead others. So, it is essential for us to surf our inner-net frequently to understand our deeper purpose, the true calling and prepare better to influence others.

Finally, we also need to acquire the Number Skills. That means, we need to begin to read and make sense of the data that is lying around and piling up around. The numbers could be the profitability numbers of your business, productivity numbers of your employees, various metrics and indicators for your products, services, platforms and so on. Numbers show the big picture.

As I said, these are the foundational skills. We need to have many more critical skills to excel in what we do.

Acquiring life skills is a three-step process. 1. Start-up new habits, 2. Give up some old habits which keep pulling us down and 3. Follow up or continue with some more habits.

Creativity is neither a gift that acquired by birth or a legacy that can be inherited. Creativity is not a super-specialty like Rocket Design or Neurosurgery. We have heard people say, “Born with a silver spoon in the mouth” but have we ever heard anyone say, “Born with a streak of creativity in the brain.”?

A SIMPLE checklist for your presentations and speeches

Most people in the corporate world have a general tendency to repurpose and recycle presentations.

E.g., They show Induction presentation to a Business Prospect and vice versa. Invariably, they end up giving a wrong presentation to a wrong audience. What do we call this?

Implementing Corporate Penal Code and sentencing the audience to a near-death experience.

Did you Create the URGE ?

Whether it is a large project or small product, you need to create an urge in the customer’s mind to gain an acceptance. Most of the gadgets we own today are the examples of the irrational urge.

The same is true even for a movie, stage show or even a presentation. You need to create the urge to get more.
